What to do after matric? The most common acronym that comes into our minds is “FSc.” Of course, other students are more interested in other groups such as F.A, ICS, and I.COM after their matriculation, but still, there’s a vast number of students with lots of love for FSc. Today, we are going to see every bit of the FSc group and by the end of it, you will be left with no questions. Keep reading and see what is meant by FSc in Pakistan and how you can prepare yourself for the exams to get at least nearest to 100%.
Many students don’t know which class is FSc in Pakistan. Of course, it’s the 11th grade and it’s surely not something one must be afraid of. Yes, it IS more challenging than matric (10th grade) because of obvious reasons but it’s certainly more fun to tackle. However, you need to learn what FSc means and what it is all about before anything else.
Let’s face it, you have only heard and read it as “FSc” and didn’t even try to learn what it actually means. Even your family, cousins, friends, and other people call it “FSc” and most of them don’t even try to realize that it’s just an acronym and has an abbreviation. Since you’re going to be a part of it, you need to know what FSc stands for. It’s “Faculty of Science.”
This abbreviation of FSc itself is very self-explanatory - it’s a study of science which means that all the specializations in any science subject start from here. FSc is the starting point of all sciences. If you want to be an engineer or a doctor, FSc is the way to go!
After learning that FSc is actually a starting point of the higher studies and specializations of science subjects, it’s time to see if there are any branches that specify further studies. Yes, we are talking about the two branches named “Pre-Engineering” and “Pre-Medical.”
As the name suggests, if you join the group FSc Pre-Engineering, it means that you are interested in studying FSc subjects that will ultimately make you an engineer or similar. However, if you pick FSc Pre-Medical subjects, it will show that you’re interested in studying medical sciences that will ultimately make you a doctor, dentist, psychiatrist, or anything similar. It might sound as if studying in FSc will limit your ways to being an engineer or a doctor only - both of these groups will unlock HUNDREDS of ways for you to choose from!
Having two different branches or groups in FSc is actually a blessing because you can pave your own path according to your own interest in academics. Also, it gives your parents confidence that their child has multiple and productive ways to choose from. It’s obvious that your parents have their own ambitions as to what they want you to become as a professional. Some want their child to be an engineer while others want them to become a certified doctor. If you can match your ambitions with your parents, there’s nothing better than this! Otherwise, try your best to go for the group that interests you!
Now, this is when you need to be familiar with all the subjects of both groups; FSc Pre-Engineering and FSc Pre-Medical.
The FSc subjects we are going to talk about are of two types; compulsory and elective subjects.
The compulsory subjects are strictly those that are required to be studied generally like English, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies, etc. Many students consider these subjects very easy and hence, don’t pay enough attention to them. However, these subjects are highly important and must be given high attention since they can be a grade booster for you.
On the other hand, the elective subjects are the ones that actually help you understand the fundamentals so you have a strong base when you enter the university for higher education. The elective subjects include Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology. Depending on the group, one of the mentioned elective subjects is changed. The following is the list of total subjects that you have to study if you choose Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical.

As you can see, there’s mathematics in the F.Sc Pre-Engineering subjects, and in the F.Sc Pre-Medical group, there’s biology as the main F.Sc subject. This is because mathematics is what a student has to mainly learn in order to get into the field of engineering whereas one has to strengthen their base with biology in order to start the journey to becoming a doctor.
Once you’ve chosen the FSc group (Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical), it is time you pick the institution from which you want to gain your intermediate education. Paying attention to this part is extremely crucial because colleges matter a lot! It’s a matter of quality education and your future depends on it, how can you even not take this step seriously?
In this section, we are going to list down the top 10 colleges for FSc Pre-Engineering subjects and Pre-Medical subjects.

The total fee for 1st year will be Rs.33,120/-. This makes the total fee for the 1st and 2nd year of FSc Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical equal to 66,240/-. For each practical subject such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, only Rs.3000/- will be charged. This makes a total of Rs.6000/- for FSc Pre-Engineering subjects and Rs.9000/- for FSc Pre-Medical subjects since the Pre-Engineering group has 2 practical subjects (Physics and Chemistry) while the Pre-Medical group has 3 practical FSc subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology).
As you know that FSc (Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical) is a 2-year program divided into 2 parts; 1st year and 2nd year (FSc Part 1 and FSc Part 2). Both of these years are basically two academic years of a student; 11th grade and 12th grade. In order to be eligible for applying to a college in F.Sc Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical, you must have cleared matric with at least 33% of FSc total marks in Pakistan. However, it is not possible to gain admission to an FSc college if you have secured only 35% marks in matric because of the competition and merit.
You might have to score at least 65-70% in matric in order to gain admission to an average FSc college. The higher the better!
Honestly, it totally depends on the particular Pakistani students because you can’t generalize this thing at all. Everyone in this world has their own specific ambitions and they make their choices accordingly.
If Zain, a student, is done with his matriculation, then he will follow what his heart shall desire. To know more about it, you need to learn the difference between the two; FSc and A-Level.
Summary
The first thing to notice about the difference between FSc and A-Level is the difference in education quality. A-Level is an international degree that includes a conceptual learning system for high-quality education. However, FSc education doesn’t require a lot of conceptual learning which makes it relatively easy to pass.
If you want to go with the local Pakistani education system, then simply pick FSc - however, if you have a plan to go abroad for higher studies, then get an A-Level degree because that would help you in your FSc admission to a reputed foreign university.
What to do after FSc? This isn’t too hard to understand because You are the one who will decide whether it’s fortunate to study FSc or not. It completely depends on what YOU want to become and do in the future as a professional. If we talk solely about FSc, we can conclude that there are subdivisions of this category that are named Pre-Engineering and Pre-Medical. Both of these subdivisions actually help you pave your path to either go into the field of engineering, technology, dentistry, or all medical fields after FSc.
In Pakistan, or even in the whole world, we can see the fast-growing field of technology which gives us the confidence that there will never be a lack of employment in this field. For example, if you go into the field of Information Technology (IT), then you are most likely to get a job after FSc or start your own business in software, web development, or a similar field. Overall, there’s a huge scope of F.Sc in Pakistan but only if you struggle properly.
There’s another huge scope of doing F.Sc and that is to join Pak Army as a Captain after F.Sc. Joining the Pak Army has a huge impact on one’s life and we would really recommend you to be a part of its noble cause.
