A pre-medical student knows this better than anyone that the number of merit seats in medical colleges of Pakistan is very less in comparison with the number of applicants. So it's extremely important to avail each and every chance in order to ensure your seat in a medical college.
And this is exactly why you shouldn't just rely on MDCAT, which no doubt is an extremely important test, but you should also attempt the tests for other medical colleges to be on a safe side and for practice too. Important Tests
Some of the tests that you can attempt apart from the MDCAT are:
-National University of science and technology NUST (third test to be conducted in July)
-Federal Medical and Dental College Islamabad FMDC (Test is conducted mostly in September)
-Aga Khan University AKU (test to be conducted in July)
In this article, we're specifically laying stress on the entrance test of Agha Khan University, one of the most prestigious medical institutes in Pakistan which is recognized on a worldwide level.
The admissions will open from 19th April'21 and will close on 28th July'21. After the application submission, the test will be conducted on 29th August'21. Interviews and Shortlisting will occur in September/October. Overseas students can submit there MCAT scores (international) by August 5, 2021.
The Programme
The Medical College offers a five-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme. Admission to the programme is based on individual merit and leadership potential, with no discrimination for gender, religion or ethnicity.
Candidates are assessed on several criteria including scholastic achievements, extracurricular achievements, and socially and culturally relevant activities. There are only 100 seats to be filled every year.
Students may apply from anywhere in the world and there are no reserved seats, quotas, or admissions against donations. The programme’s language of instructions in English.
Admissions are currently open for the 2021. The last date to submit the application is 28th July, 2021. Candidates are required to apply online. Academic Requirements for Eligibility
The Medical College has no preference for any particular type of preparation and qualification. Candidates who have been prepared in Urdu or English-medium institutions, in Pakistan or overseas, and have successfully completed or are in the process of completing their HSSC / graduate / postgraduate education and meet the eligibility criteria may apply.
For details, please review the Programme Information Booklet. In addition to meeting minimum academic eligibility requirements of AKU, all candidates must also meet the requirements of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). Details can be found on PMDC website.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission:
• HSSC (FSc Pre-medical) Degree with minimum 60% score
• Candidates having a qualification (i.e. A-level) other than Pakistani HSSC with at least B grade” in each of the three subjects. The subjects must include biology, chemistry, and physics.
*National MDCAT with passing marks to be eligible for the AKU test.
Registration Fee:
The registration fee is non-refundable and can be paid either through online banking or by availing the University’s E-payment facility. The registration fee is as follows:
-Candidates applying from AKU residential countries: Rs 6,300/-
-Candidates applying from AKU non-residential countries: US$ 306/-
The AKU residential countries include Afghanistan, Burundi, Kenya, Pakistan, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Repeat Applications:
Candidates to the MBBS programme, not successful in their first attempt may reapply for admission with additional information supporting their application. For application to the MBBS programme, a candidate‟s most current academic qualification will be used for evaluation purposes. Candidates are allowed a maximum of three attempts to be admitted to the MBBS programme. Following the three unsuccessful applications, candidates are ineligible to apply for the MBBS programme but may apply for other University programmes, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
Test syllabus and pattern:
Test questions are based on the HSSC curriculum in Pakistan. The curriculum is available within the Undergraduate Admission page at aku.edu/admissions/mbbs. Candidates are advised in their own interest to go through the curriculum provided. Additional details about the AKU Test are provided in the sample test paper.
The AKU Test includes a section on science and mathematical reasoning and a section on science achievement comprising of questions in biology, chemistry, and physics. The questions in this multiple choice exam are designed to test recall of factual information, application of knowledge, deduction and problem-solving ability.
Submitting an Application
Candidates are required to apply online. For assistance in completing the online application, applicants are advised to go through the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) or Understand the Online Process.
Only in situations where the online application is not accessible, candidates may request for a paper-based application form by emailing the Admission Office at admissions.query@aku.edu. Following documents are required to be submitted with the paper-based application:
1. Completed paper application form
2. Two recent passport size color photographs bearing your name and attestation on the back; for photographs specification, please review Programme Information Booklet
3. Attested photocopies of mark sheets/official transcripts/general certificates as entered on the form
4. Copy of 'B' Form/CNIC/NICOP for candidates applying from Pakistan or relevant pages of passport for overseas applicants
5. An extra envelope bearing your name, address, and contact number. This envelope will be used to send the admit card to you
