The paper on Islamic studies in CSS becomes very challenging for the students. in the last few years, it was observed that many students failed Islamic studies. The prime reason behind the failure of the Islamic studies paper was not knowledge. However, students most of the time quote wrong Quranic verses and use irrelevant verses just to fix them in their papers. I have compiled six important verses with their brief introductions. You can simply note these verses and can use them in any question that comes in your paper matching these concepts. It will be very fruitful for all the students.
Tawheed
Certainly, the concept of Tawheed (Oneness of God) is a fundamental principle in Islam, and several Quranic verses emphasize this concept. One of the well-known verses is from Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112), which succinctly captures the essence of Tawheed. Here is the verse along with its translation:
Surah Al-Ikhlas (112:1-4):
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,
Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
He neither begets nor is born,
Nor is there to Him any equivalent."
Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,
Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
He neither begets nor is born,
Nor is there to Him any equivalent."
This surah emphasizes the absolute oneness of Allah, free from any partners, associates, or similarities. It encapsulates the concept of Tawheed beautifully and is often recited to affirm the monotheistic beliefs in Islam.
Day of Judgment
Certainly, the Quran addresses the concept of the Day of Judgment in various verses. One notable verse is from Surah Al-Zalzalah (Chapter 99), which vividly describes the events of that day. Here is the verse along with its translation:
Surah Al-Zalzalah (99:1-6):
When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake
And the earth discharges its burdens
And man says, "What is [wrong] with it?" -
That Day, it will report its news
Because your Lord has commanded it.
That Day the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.
Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake
And the earth discharges its burdens
And the man says, "What is [wrong] with it?" -
That Day, it will report its news
Because your Lord has commanded it.
That Day the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.
This verse vividly describes the events of the Day of Judgment, including the shaking of the earth, the disclosure of deeds, and the categorization of people based on their actions. It serves as a powerful reminder of the accountability in the Hereafter.
Dignity of Man
The Quran emphasizes the dignity and honor bestowed upon humankind by Allah. One notable verse that addresses the dignity of man is from Surah Al-Isra (Chapter 17), verse 70. Here is the verse along with its translation:
Surah Al-Isra (17:70):
Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.
This verse highlights the inherent honor and dignity that Allah has bestowed upon the descendants of Adam (humankind). It emphasizes the special status of humans, being granted the ability to inhabit the earth and the sea, provided with sustenance, and honored above many other creations. The recognition of human dignity in this verse underscores the responsibility to act by the ethical and moral guidance provided by Allah.
Zakat
The obligation of Zakat (charitable giving) is mentioned in several places in the Quran. One such verse is from Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2), verse 267. Here is the verse along with its translation:
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:267):
Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
This verse encourages believers to spend from the good and lawful earnings they have, emphasizing the purity and quality of what is given in charity. It highlights the concept of giving from what is considered good and wholesome, reinforcing the idea that acts of charity should be sincere and beneficial.
Rights of Women
The Quran emphasizes the rights and dignity of women in several verses. One such verse is from Surah An-Nisa (Chapter 4), verse 1. Here is the verse along with its translation:
*Surah An-Nisa (4:1):*
Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
This verse highlights the common origin of men and women, emphasizing the equality and shared humanity of both genders. It underscores the importance of God-consciousness (taqwa) and the ethical treatment of one another, including the recognition of the rights of women. The verse also mentions the concept of family ties (wombs) as a reminder of the importance of maintaining kinship and treating women with respect.
Minority Rights
While the Quran does not explicitly use the term "minority rights," it emphasizes the principles of justice, equity, and protection for all individuals, regardless of their religious or social status. One overarching principle in the Quran is the call for justice and fair treatment of all people.
Here is a verse from Surah Al-Ma'idah (Chapter 5), verse 8, which emphasizes justice:
*Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:8):*
Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.
This verse emphasizes the obligation of believers to stand firmly for justice, even if it means testifying against oneself or one's close relatives. It encourages impartiality, fairness, and adherence to justice, irrespective of personal biases or affiliations. While this verse does not explicitly mention minority rights, it promotes the overarching principle of justice and fairness for all individuals.
